I know I'm skipping around these 23 Things, but this one seemed, well.... easy. The task for thing 18 was to discover some online productivity tools. I've been using one such tool, Google Docs, for almost a year now. I like how I can work on a document from any internet-connected computer. I jot down ideas for storytime classes, from home, my office, or the information desk, sometimes even creating the whole plan online before I move it to a standard word processing program for final formatting, printing and storage. I also make notes on books that I want to read or that I want to recommend to a particular customer. My library has even already harnessed this technology to improve productivity; my colleagues and I collaborate on joint lists using Google Spreadsheets. We love it. Besides the above listed basic convenience factor of the program type, I really appreciate how Google Docs saves the document very frequently and is connected to my Gmail account so I don't have to create and remember another alias and password.
In exploring Zoho Writer, the other major online document creation program highlighted in this 'thing', I noticed that it offers more formatting and printing options than Google Docs and might even save me more time. This is really good to know. I don't know if I will switch over right away, but I did *discover* something new, which is the whole point of this process, right?
